This study undertook research to identify plant pest response best practices for the greenhouse and potato industries in Canada. It will serve as the basis for a national consistent framework based on risk identification, management mechanisms and a compensation function. The study reviewed practices in the United States, Mexico, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to determine a Best Practice Model. The review was done using literature and interviews with industry representatives in each country. The suggested model was reviewed by separate Canadian working groups drawn from the greenhouse and potato industries.

This project identifies viable non-government options which will provide the organic industry with creative funding ideas based on sound underlying principles that will enable it to pursue an ongoing strategy for the continued maintenance of the Canadian Organic Standards.

This study determines the economic impact of the Canadian aquaculture industry based on 2007, 2010 and 2012 provincial aquaculture data. The report examines alternative methods for estimating the economic impacts of aquaculture in Canada by comparing and contrasting impact results from studies based on industry data for the years 2007, 2010 and 2012. Different versions of the Statistics Canada Interprovincial Input-Output Model are used: the 2005 version for the 2007 study; the 2008 version for the 2010 study; and the 2010 version for the 2012 study.

This study provides estimates of the economic impact of aquaculture in Canada, with a focus on impacts at the community or regional level in some of the major producing areas. It relies on data for 2010. It is an up-date of a report produced in 2009, based on 2007 data.
