Economic Assessment of the Donkin Coal Mine

This study provides an economic impact analysis of the Donkin Coal Mine located on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The deposit contains a saleable reserve of 48 million tonnes and further inferred resources of 254 million tonnes suggesting an operational mine life of at least 29 years. Economic impacts are estimated separately for both capital construction activity as well as annual operation. The impacts are reported according to conventional indicators including GDP, employment, labour income, and provincial and federal tax revenues. The analysis generates direct and spinoff (indirect and induced) impact estimates for the Cape Breton and Nova Scotia economies based on Statistics Canadas Interprovincial Input-Output Model.

Rum Runners Trail Economic Impact Study

This study completes an economic impact assessment of the Rum Runners Trail in the summer of 2016. The Trail is jointly funded by ACOA, the Nova Scotia Tourism Agency and the municipalities of Halifax, Chester and Lunenburg. There is a pressing need to develop baseline estimates of trail use and expenditures attributed to the trail. The intent is to replicate the study in three years to determine the impact on tourism of the promotion and development of the Rum Runners Trail.
