Economic Analysis
This study determines the economic impact of the Canadian aquaculture industry based on 2007, 2010 and 2012 provincial aquaculture data. The report examines alternative methods for estimating the economic impacts of aquaculture in Canada by comparing and contrasting impact results from studies based on industry data for the years 2007, 2010 and 2012. Different versions of the Statistics Canada Interprovincial Input-Output Model are used: the 2005 version for the 2007 study; the 2008 version for the 2010 study; and the 2010 version for the 2012 study.

Comparative review of the regulatory and policy environment for aquaculture in Atlantic Canada

This study provides a basis for the four Atlantic provinces to consider harmonization opportunities for aquaculture regulation and policy. To support this overall aim, the following two main objectives are met: Identification of a common set of Atlantic priority objectives for the management of the aquaculture industry; and completion of a comparative analysis of the regulatory environment, policy framework, and programming for aquaculture in Atlantic Canada. Recommendations are provided on priority opportunities for harmonization, with comment on: the relative importance, costs and benefits to industry, and the anticipated level of difficulty or time involved in implementing any changes.
